This Mashable article highlights a study from online career training resource Trade Schools, Colleges and Universities, which found that about 80 percent of adults don’t pursue their childhood dream careers. Those who pursued their dream jobs were very happy with their careers. Industries with the highest job satisfaction levels included information technology, health care, education, government and professional services.
We asked some of our employees what they would rather do if they weren’t working at our company. Here’s what they shared:
“I would like to do software engineering. I like the hardware part of it. I have a computer and I put different components on it, but things change so fast. Getting into software would be pretty cool.”
“My dream job is to be a detective. I would like to be a sheriff but I’m not that tough. I like how they investigate when they want to know something. I also went to school to become a medical assistant last year. I’m thinking about being a caregiver.”
“My dream job would be to work with kids. I love working with them!”
“I always wanted to play professional baseball. I would have loved to have played for the Diamondbacks. My grandfather was drafted to play for the Pirates I think, but he enlisted in the Army. He would have been a professional player. I had an injury at 18 that prevented me from pursuing baseball. Since then, I’ve had a passion for cooking. I love to cook new things. I thought about going to culinary school. I love to cook breakfast, spaghetti, steaks and rice. My rice is my favorite thing – you can always add anything to it. Cooking is definitely my thing. I brought my chorizo and egg burritos for people here at work and they loved it!”
